Mr. Kailash Satyarthi born on January 11, 1954, in Vidisha, a small town in Madhya Pradesh, India, Kailash Satyarthi's journey toward becoming a global advocate for children's rights began early in life. His early years were shaped by a strong sense of justice and compassion. After completing his engineering degree, he chose to pursue a different path—a path that would lead him to dedicate his life to theeradication of child labor.


Mr. Kailash Satyarthi's crusade against child labor began in the late 1970s when he left his promising career as an electrical engineer and founded the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save the Childhood Movement). This organization became the cornerstone of his life's work. Through his organization, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, Mr. Satyarthi has liberated more than 100,000 children from child labour, slavery, trafficking and other forms of exploitation and developed a successful model for their education, rehabilitation and reintegration into mainstream society. Rescue missions led by Satyarthi and his team were often perilous, as they confronted traffickers and employers who profited from the exploitation of vulnerable children. Despite the dangers, Satyarthi remained undeterred, rescuing thousands of children and ensuring their rehabilitation and education.


Mr. Kailash Satyarthi understood that the battle against child labor transcended borders. He tirelessly campaigned at national and international levels to raise awareness about the issue and garner support for his cause. His efforts led to the formation of the Global March Against Child Labor, a worldwide coalition of NGOs, trade unions, and individuals advocating for the eradication of child labor. The Global March Against Child Labour, which he led, galvanized support in 103
countries resulting in the adoption of ILO Convention 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labor, which went on to become the only universally ratified convention in the history of the ILO.

He is also the founding president of the Global Campaign for Education, an exemplar civil society movement working to end the global education crisis. He successfully spearheaded a countrywide movement to make education a Constitutional Provision which subsequently paved the way for the Right to Free and Compulsory Education in India in 2009. Mr Satyarthi is credited for establishing GoodWeave International (previously known as Rugmark), a first-of-its-kind certification and social labelling mechanism for child labour-free carpets in South Asia. He has worked to advance ethical business practices, to help businesses liberate their supply chains from child labour.


In 2014, Kailash Satyarthi's decades of tireless work were recognized on the global stage when he was jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize with Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani advocate for girls' education. This honor not only acknowledged his unwavering commitment but also amplified the global conversation on child rights and the importance of ensuring that every child has the opportunity to grow up free from exploitation.
